Pass it on

chestnut trees Today a friend and I went and harvested about twenty pounds of chestnuts. They were free. The man whose property the trees we gathered them from didn’t want them, for him they were a nuisance.

When I was a boy I would pick up pecans and sell them downtown. That was easy and good money for a kid. Maybe you have to be a kid to see the value in trees. I don’t meet any adults that do. It’s usually the generations before us that planted the trees knowing another generation would reap the reward.

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” -Greek Proverb

Has our society grown great? No it hasn’t.

I WILL plant trees that will someday shade people I have never met.

I already have.
