Silverthorn – Edible landscaping
A bush in the front yard that we only thought was ornamental turns out to have edible fruit, score! Silverthorn is related to Autumn olive and Russian olive and has berries that are similar to those. The berries are very astringent at the moment since they aren’t ripe. Supposedly they ripen in February. I really think that this would be a great candidate for a living fence. It’s very dense, grows like a weed, it’s nearly indestructible and has a yield! The blossoms also have a very nice fragrance as well, for a while I was thinking it was a type of gardenia.
